Despite its troubles, South Africa is a beautiful country. It has hundreds of great places to visit and has some of the most fantastic scenery and wildlife in the world. But, there is one place above anywhere else that you need to visit if you’re going to South Africa – the Londolozi Game Reserve. It really is a fantastic holiday destination and I can’t recommend it enough.
Londolozi has been around for 86 years now and has grown into a world-renowned, luxury, ecotourism resort. The best part? It remains a family run business to this day. The reserve is located on the border of the Kruger National Park, right up in the north-east corner of the country, and prides itself on being a sanctuary for all living things – plants, people and animals. In Zulu, the name itself – Londolozi – means protector, and this is the ethos behind every decision the family makes to do with the reserve. They really believe in it.
While this sanctuary is a luxury travel destination, it’s still very much a place for adventure. There are beautiful villas scattered around the reserve to stay in, and animals run wild giving you the chance to see them in their natural environment. Most people who visit South Africa want to see the Big 5, meaning lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinoceroses, and you’ll certainly find them here.
Lorna and I are flying to South Africa in early January to meet my daughter Jenna and her husband and children. Seeing as they all live in Australia, we decided to meet halfway between here and there for a holiday together. We’ll be staying at the Londolozi Game Reserve, and I cannot wait.
